AJ receives offer for Wilder, Fury fight

first_imgRelatedPosts Tyson Fury to Anthony Joshua: Don’t risk fighting Usyk Saudi may have enough uranium deposits to make nuclear fuel – Reports Anthony Joshua, Okolie plot world title double Anthony Joshua’s team have received a “huge site offer” to stage an undisputed world title clash against the winner of the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury fight in Saudi Arabia. Britain’s heavyweight star regained his world titles with a rematch win over Andy Ruiz Jr at the Diriyah Arena in December and promoter Eddie Hearn hopes to head back to the Middle East for a blockbuster battle at the end of 2020. Wilder defends his WBC title against Fury in Las Vegas on February 22, while Joshua plans to put his WBA, IBF and WBO belts at stake against Kubrat Pulev in London in May or June. But the Matchroom Boxing boss wants to split a massive fight purse down the middle for Joshua and the reigning WBC champion after holding recent talks with Saudi officials. “We have to try and make that happen,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “Right now, the fight that Anthony Joshua wants is the winner of Wilder and Fury. “We’ve been there before. Both guys have turned down 60-40 for that fight and now we have no other option, but to offer them 50-50, because the fight will never happen, subject to the boss giving the thumbs up, which I think he knows that’s the way to make this fight. “We have a huge site offer in place for that fight to take place.” Bulgarian Pulev is next in line for Joshua at the IBF’s mandatory challenger, with a fight announcement expected in the middle of February as Hearn assesses possible venues such as The Emirates and Twickenham. “Kubrat Pulev is the frontrunner,” said Hearn. “I think we’ve established that the IBF mandatory was called before the WBO mandatory. “Pulev is the fight for me, and more importantly for the boss, AJ, he wants it here. He’s boxed now in Saudi Arabia for his last fight, he’s boxed in New York before that. “For me, it’s time to come home. The bad news is that Kubrat Pulev wants as much money as possible for this fight and he realises there’s more money in Istanbul, or Saudi Arabia, or the Congo, or Nigeria, but AJ is going to call the shots. “He may end up having to let the Pulev fight go, if he won’t fight in the places that we’d like him to fight and that is in the UK. We’re looking at dates at the end of May to the beginning of June for the Pulev fight. Everywhere is in play. Emirates Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur, The Olympic Stadium, we’ve also reached out to Twickenham as well. “The Principality Stadium has got some dates for us, so in an ideal world, AJ’s next fight will be Kubrat Pulev in London, but this is a far from an ideal world, particularly in the boxing game.” The WBO had also ordered Joshua to make a mandatory title defence Oleksandr Usyk, who is now close to agreeing an alternative fight with Derek Chisora on March 28.Tags: Anthony JoshuaDeontay WilderEddie HearnSaudi Arabialast_img read more

‘Do you know who I am?’ – Prosecutors explain how Maguire tried to bribe police

first_imgProsecutors in Greece have claimed that Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire tried to use his status at the club and wealth to bribe his way out of his arrest.According to the state’s lawyers, after Maguire was picked up by police in the aftermath of a brawl at a bar, he asked the officers if they knew who he was and offered to pay them to let him and his friends go.Maguire, the prosecution claimed in court on Tuesday, said: “Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United, I am very rich, I can give you money, I can pay you, please let us go.”Sky Sports reporter, Martha Kelner, said prosecution also claimed that the officers had initially tried to calm down the situation but their attempts failed, with one of the “English men” yelling expletives at the officers and punching one of them.An officer who was called to the stand claimed that Maguire pushed him when he was attempting to arrest the defender, resulting in him falling and hurting his back, while another said that Maguire tried to break away as he was being handcuffed.Martha Kelner had earlier reported that Maguire’s legal team had asked the court to reschedule the hearing, stating that they were not given time to prepare. The judge, however, ordered the trial to go ahead.Maguire’s lawyers argued that two Albanian men injected Maguire’s sister with something, causing her to faint, and sparking the fight. They said the player and his friends called a van to take them to the hospital but they were taken to the police instead. The lawyers also countered the prosecutions claims that Maguire resisted arrest by stating that the player wanted to make a call.last_img read more

Neymar sued by Santos supporter for deciding to join Barcelona

first_imgNeymar is being sued by a supporter of his former club Santos for choosing to quit for Barcelona, according to reports in Brazil.Globoesporte claim that Brazilian lawyer Luciano Pereira Caparroz, a lifelong Santos fan, is taking action against Neymar for signing a pre-contract agreement with Barca before the Club World Cup tie against the Catalan club in 2011.Caparroz claims he spent around £2,000 to travel to Japan to attend the match, which Santos lost 4-0, and was furious to discover that Neymar had signed the deal with Barca beforehand. He has now filed a lawsuit against Neymar and N&N, the company owned by the player’s father which represents him, in a Sao Paulo cour for the amount of £6,600.Caporroz wants the money to cover the costs of his journey to Japan and as compensation for ‘morale damages’ associated with the player’s decision to leave Santos. He said: “I’m a Santista, I go to all the games and I decided to travel to Japan to watch the Club World Cup. I was left frustrated with the result and on top of that, later on we learned that Neymar was already sold. I feel cheated.” Neymar and N&N are yet to comment on the case.last_img read more
